Let’s clearly define “Personality-Worship”
The Donald Trump Affect is amongst the Best-Examples, via Human-History, that if one packages themselves the Way Certain-Persons want: they’ll always have a Perpetual Cult-Following of Personality-Worshippers. I specifically remember that during the U.S. Presidential-Election of 2016, CE: a Woman being interviewed on T.V. literally called Donald Trump “God”. Via India, a Donald Trump Idol was made by Trump-Supporters.

Personality-Worship affects every Dimension of the Human-Experience. Even something as simple as purchasing Footwear: it’s directly connected to Personality-Worship.
Personality-Worship via Materialism.
As per at-Takāthur/Materialism, Most-Persons exclusively consume Certain-Things which’re directly tied to Celebrity. This serves as a False-Sense of al-Jam`iyyah/Belonging. And, because of this, any Kind/Type of Branding attached to any Celebrity one foolishly idolizes will be purchased by those whom idolizes these Celebrities.
Gettin back to what Yūsuf Rios stated
Known-Notables of the Past never, ever, had to “publicize” their Religio-Scholastic Accomplishments. This is because they weren’t thirst for Popularily, nor were they addicted to Fame. Their Character and their Behavior was their Voice. They never had to say: “I’m So&So.”…their Meritable-Actions spoke for them. They never had to self-advertise: their Students and their Followers informed Others about them.
And, this is how/why Personality-Worship is so dangerous…Personality-Worship quite literally leads People astray. Amongst the Best/Amthāl/Examples of the Sharr/Evil which is Personality-Worship are the People-Of-Noah. The People-Of-Noah began to Personality-Worship the Righteous-5 amongst their People, prior to the Birth of Noah (Peace be upon them):

Nasr
ash-Shaytān/Satan had deceived the People-Of-Noah via convincing them to orchestrate a Cult-Following of the Righteous-5. This, of course, converted into Full-Throttle Worship of the Righteous-5. We, as Muslims, are directly warned against Personality-Worship…All Personality-Worship leads to ash-Shirk/Association. This is precisely how/why Muhammad (Peace be upon them) prophetically-instructed:
“Don’t exaggerate me like how Christians exaggerate the Son-Of-Mary.”
