al-Muqaddimah/Prelude
This has been on my Sadr (Mind&Heart), quite literally for Decades, pertaining to Things which so/too many Muslims proclaim yet don’t even mean.
#LetsGetToIt
“Wallahi”
Meaning:
“I swear by Allah/On God”
The Pathetic-Irony is that when the Average-Muslim says “Wallahi”: it’s easy to tell whether they’re lying.
“Inshā’Allah/Bi’Idhnillah”
Meaning:
“If Allah wills/Via the Permission-Of-Allah”
Typically, as per the Sad-Reality of Muslim-Culture globally…if/when a Person mentions the Aforementioned-Phrase, it could mean 1 of 2-Things:
1. I really don’t wanna do what I’ve been asked/told to do.
2. I’ll do whatever I’ve been requested/ordered to do, if/when I feel like it.
“Alhamdulillah/Humdoo”
Meaning:
“The Praise is for Allah”
This-Phrase, via its Proper-Context, represents the Ultimate-Minhāj/Mentality of ash-Shukr (Gratitude) to Allah. However, it’s often used as a Shield/Mask to keep Others out of one’s Personal-Affairs (which isn’t inherently a Bad-Thing necessarily). Yet, at the Same-Time: if one is dealing with Serious-Issues and actually needs an-Nasr (Help), then Most-Persons won’t know how to help them if all they do is use the Humdoo-Mask (to avoid admitting to their Issues/Problems, allowing themselves to be open/vulnerable, etc.).
“Mashallah”
Meaning:
“Whatever Allah wills”
This-Phrase is really tricky, because it ain’t always easy to gauge the Sincerity versus the Sarcasm of the Person uttering it. I’d actually argue that this is the most challenging of all the Phrases I’ve covered via This-Article. Somestimes, the Phrase is used if/when Good-News or when Bad-News is made known. So, for for such a Reason, it’s difficult to completely determine whether someone actually wishes you well if/when they utter such a Phrase.
“Qaddarallahu mā Shā’ fa`āl”
Meaning:
“Allah does what They decree”
Interestingly enough: Most-Muslims I’ve ever heard use This-Phrase have been Muslim-American Muslim-Borns (Muslim Afro-American Muslim-Borns particularly). I’ve literally witnessed This-Phrase uttered by People, if/when something Negative passes over Others, as a Religio-Euphemism for (Yeah, Nigga…U deserved it.”.
“Yahdīkallahu/Allahu yahdīka”
Meaning:
“May Allah guide you”
Never exclusively, but typically, this is stated to be disingenous, insincere, etc. Reason being is because typically the Person saying it audaciously/arrogantly thinks&feels that they’re “More-Pius/Righteous” than the Person they’re addressing.
“Bārakallahu fīk”
Meaning:
“May Allah bless you”
More often than not, typically, Lots-Of-Muslims say this, as a Way to deflect/gaslight Fellow-Muslims via Arguments or Disputes. It’s often used as a Religio-Euphemism for “Get da Fuck out my Space/Face.”.
“Astaghfirullah/Stafallah”
Meaning:
“May Allah forgive”
This is often used for 2-Reasons:
When witnessing/doing something Islāmically-Prohibited, which we equally personally despise.
When witnessing/doing something Islāmically-Prohibited, which we equally enjoy.
Often…it’s very clear deciphering the Difference. For example: I myself have said “Humdoo-Stafallah”, if/when there’s something I know is Harām but I’ve a Personal-Affinity for which I’ve personally struggled with.
Uncomfortable-Reality
These Aforementioned-Aqwāl/Phrases are in Ad`iyyah (Prayers, Supplications, etc.), and are to actually be given More-Respect than we give them. We all, as Muslims, must/should take These-Aqwāl more seriously than we do. At Times, it’s so bad (that we misuse the Aforementioned-Ad`iyyah), that even Non-Muslims use/misuse these Same-Aqwāl, via their own Ignorance, not knowing or caring what they hear/repeat from Muslims. And, equally, Non-Muslims neither know nor care that they’re copying the Misusage of such Aqwāl by Muslims.
Necessary-Conclusion
Let’s all, as Muslims, do a Better-Job at using these Aforementioned-Aqwāl with the Respect they deserve.
